Restoring The Tabernacle of David
So many Christians love the Tabernacle of David. They imagine the worship that was there and how the Presence of God would come there and touch people. They think of the intimacy that Israelites felt as they encountered God at David’s Tabernacle. It fills people with a romantic imagery that few things in the Bible do.
David’s Tabernacle was taken down or it was neglected to the point that it fell down and was forgotten. But The Lord loved David’s Tabernacle! It was His will that it be raised up so that He could spend time with His people and touch their lives by His Holy Spirit. And so when it was neglected and disregarded by the people He spoke through His Prophets and said the following that His Messiah would sit upon the His Throne and that it would be set up in the Tabernacle of David.
Isaiah 16:5 “And in mercy shall the throne be established: and he shall sit upon it in truth in the tabernacle of David…”
But was the Prophet Isaiah speaking of the natural Tabernacle of David being set up again or was he actually prophesying about a completely different dimension? To answer this we need to look at what is recorded by the Prophet Amos…
Amos 9:11 “In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen”
So, Amos is talking about a “day” in which David’s Tabernacle will be raised up. To see how these two prophesies were interpreted by the Apostles we only need to go to the Book of Acts to see what The Lord’s brother, the Apostle James says:
Acts 15:16-17 (KJV) “After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up: That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.”
All of the Apostles agreed with James! The context for this was that the Gentiles were coming to The Lord and being Saved and becoming a part of His Church! Therefore we can see that the Prophets were not prophesying about David’s “physical” or “natural” Tabernacle being restored but the “Spiritual Tabernacle of David” was restored for the Messiah to sit upon His Throne within it and Jesus, the Messiah, sits upon His Throne in The Church!
Therefore, The Church is the Restored Tabernacle of David
And, the Lord is building His Church and filling it with people from all of the Nations just as the Prophets said. Now we know that God inhabits or sits upon Praise as on a Throne…
Psalm 22:3 “But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.”
And, as He is “Enthroned” upon our Praises His Glory is released. Glory in the Greek is Doxa and in the Hebrew it is Kabod. The meaning of those words speak of something “weighty”… And they also mean “an opinion, a hint, a whisp, a thought or feeling made manifest with the mouth.” So we see that Glory is expressed through our thoughts out of our mouths and it is a spiritual substance of great weight… Like gold is in the natural…
Let’s put a few Scriptures together…
Matthew 12:34 “…for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.”
Psalm 50:23 “Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me:”
John 7:38 “He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.”
Numbers 21:17 “Then Israel sang this song, Spring up, O well; sing ye unto it:”
Psalm 68:4,33 “Sing unto God, sing praises to his name: extol him that rideth upon the heavens (the clouds) by his name JAH, and rejoice before him. To him that rideth upon the heavens of heavens…”
Revelation 4:9,10 “And when those beasts give glory and honor and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever, The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever…”
Do you get the sense that when we Praise God we are releasing Glory through our Mouths because that Glory is deep within us in the depths of our hearts and therefore what is in our heart comes out of our mouths???
Can you see that as we Sing Praise to God that we give Glory to Him it is like Clouds of Glory coming out of our mouths for God to ride upon???
Remember when you were young and there was a cold snap in the morning when you walked to school? What did you do? You breathed out little “clouds” from your mouth and laughed about how you could make a cloud with your breath!
Well, that’s a picture in the natural of what we do in the spiritual realm when we Praise God!!!
When you say “Hallelujah” you’re breathing out a little “Glory Cloud” from your mouth!!! The Glory that is in the depths of your heart is going out from your mouth when you Praise God! Hallelujah!!!
Do you want the Presence of the Lord in our Church? Of course! So, we must offer praises to Him so that He will come and sit upon His Throne and do Kingdom Business!
When this truly happens something else will follow;
2 Chronicles 9:1-7 9:1 And when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon, she came to prove Solomon with hard questions at Jerusalem, with a very great company, and camels that bare spices, and gold in abundance, and precious stones: and when she was come to Solomon, she communed with him of all that was in her heart. And Solomon told her all her questions: and there was nothing hid from Solomon which he told her not. And when the queen of Sheba had seen the wisdom of Solomon, and the house that he had built, And the meat of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their apparel; his cupbearers also, and their apparel; and his ascent by which he went up into the house of the LORD; there was no more spirit in her. And she said to the king, It was a true report which I heard in mine own land of thine acts, and of thy wisdom: Howbeit I believed not their words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen it: and, behold, the one half of the greatness of thy wisdom was not told me: for thou exceedest the fame that I heard. Happy are thy men, and happy are these thy servants, which stand continually before thee, and hear thy wisdom.
Jesus said in John 12:32 “If I be lifted up I will draw all men unto me”.
When we lift Him up and Praise Him we create an atmosphere of Glory and He inhabits that Glory and sits upon His Throne within The Church. When that happens He draws people to himself. The Queen of Sheba was drawn to Solomon’s Temple because of the Glory of it… When we Glorify God with true Praise and Worship Jesus builds His Church by drawing people to himself… This is the fulfillment of the Prophesy of Amos; that the Gentiles will come to the Tabernacle of David!
So, let’s make Praising God and Worshipping the Father, Son and Holy Spirit a top priority in our Churches. When we do that several things happen:
- We are raising up the Tabernacle of David that was fallen down
- We build His Throne within it by our Praise
- He comes into the midst of us riding on the Clouds of Glory we created
- Then He inhabits our Praises and sits upon His Throne
- And finally, He draws all men unto Himself!
This is why the Apostle Paul penned these words in Philippians 4:4 (KJV) “Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.”
So, let us Rejoice in The Lord and Raise up His Tabernacle!
