Faith and Your 5 Senses

Luke 1:37    “…for with God, nothing is impossible.”

An airplane has brakes and landing gear but they are of no value once the plane is in the air. Once it is in the air the brakes don’t work and they fold up the landing gear. While it is on the ground they are necessary but once that plane is in the air they are useless. When it is in the air the plane is in a different “realm” and it operates on different principles in that realm.

That’s how it is with our five natural senses. They are extremely valuable in the “natural realm” but they are of no value in the “spiritual realm”.

In the spiritual realm we need faith.

We know that it is through our natural senses that we understand the world around us but the Bible tells us in Hebrews 11:3 that it is “…through faith we understand…” the spiritual world of God!

So, my prayer for you comes from Ephesians 1:18

“The eyes of your understanding (your spiritual imagination) being enlightened that you may “see” (into the spiritual world)…”

Once the eyes of your understanding are opened

you see by faith!

Hebrews 11:1           “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for; the evidence of things not seen …”

Faith is very real… but it is a spiritual substance not a natural one. That’s why we need our “eyes” opened.

Faith is detected with spiritual senses. You can “hear” it. You can “see” it with the eyes of your understanding or your “spiritual imagination”.

And you can “feel” it because it is a true “substance”.

Let’s look at Romans 10:8-10; 17

But what does it say? The word (rhema) is right there in your mouth and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith (the rhema), which we preach; that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation; So then faith cometh by hearing the word (rhema) of God.”

Can you see that you believe with your spiritual heart and when you confess what you believe you possess it!

That’s because you are saying the same thing that God is saying!

The wordRhemahas a very specific definition:

It means: “that which is spoken”…

So, a “Rhema” is a specific word to a specific person in a specific situation at a specific time.

When we receive a “rhema” from God we receive a real substance from the Spiritual World!

Now, with your spiritual imagination I want you to see that the Word (rhema) of Faith is a spiritual seed

When you receive a “rhema” from God you receive a spiritual seed and you conceive in your heart what was spoken to you.

Luke 1:37, 38     “For with God no rhema shall be impossible. And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy rhema. And the angel departed from her.”

When Mary received the rhema and “confessed” that she received it by saying it, she conceived what God said; Jesus!

When we receive a rhema from God we conceive that which He has spoken! That rhema can come through many channels; the Written Word, the Spoken Word, a Prophetic Word, etc.

Once we hear it we believe and then we receive it…

When we say: “let it be done unto me according to your rhema”, we have it!

So here is the process of faith…

1-             You hear the rhema

2-             You believe it

3-             You receive it in your heart

4-             You see the spiritual seed of what was spoken with the eyes of your understanding (your spiritual imagination)

The 5th step is to “say” what you believe to be true

Mark 11: 23       “For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.”

Remember, this whole process is a spiritual one. Because of that we have to guard our minds against any thoughts from our 5 senses that would contradict the Word of Faith and nullify it!

Hebrews 10:23   “Let us hold fast (tight) the profession of our faith without wavering”

After you say the same thing that God says you take the last step; You have to “hold onto it tightly”…

Do you remember that Satan tried to kill Moses and Jesus when they were babies to prevent them from growing up and fulfilling their destiny?

Then I want you to realize that he will try to kill the seed that you have conceived in your heart by faith!

He will try to fill your mind with doubt and fear… his two greatest weapons!

So be like a pregnant woman, rub your tummy!

Then, like a woman who is pregnant, talk about what faith has conceived in your heart and “confess” it to everyone!

The woman knows she is pregnant; she can “feel” it!

You can “feel” the “substance” of faith too!

So the process grows:

1- You hear the rhema

2- You believe it

3- You receive it in your heart

4- You see the spiritual seed of what was spoken with the eyes of your understanding (your spiritual imagination)

5- You say what you believe is true and you conceive what you believe

6- Then you begin to feel the substance of your faith

7- And you hold onto it tightly!

Romans 4:17 says that God speaks about the things that do not exist yet in the natural world as if they did because they do exist in the spiritual world!

Soon, like Abraham of old, you will “speak about those things that are not (yet existing in the natural realm) as thought they were because you have seen them in the spiritual realm. You have the “evidence” of faith!

Let’s place this all in context with a real situation…

John 5:1-4   “After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches.

In these 5 porches there were a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.”

The five porches represent the 5 natural senses:

Hearing, Seeing, Feeling, Tasting and Smelling

The Pool represents The Logos or The Bible

The Stirring of the Water represents The Rhema

Which is the Seed of Faith

Today, Christians are waiting for one of the 5 natural senses to confirm to them that God has done something for them. They look to them for proof that He has answered their prayers for healing, finances, blessings, etc.

That’s like trying to use the brakes on an airplane when it’s up in the sky… It doesn’t work!

Are you waiting for your senses to tell you that God wants to heal you? Bless you? Bring finances into your life?

Don’t! The Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 2:14 that “The natural man does not receive the things of God because they are spiritually discerned”.

In other words, you can’t use your 5 natural senses to understand the things of God… it takes faith to do that!

Remember, it is by Faith that we understand!

So, to the extent that you are trusting in your natural senses you are not trusting God!

Remember, “with God, nothing is impossible”!

So, when you receive a Word or Rhema from God don’t look to your natural senses for confirmation of it!

Because the “substance of faith and its evidence” is in the spiritual realm… not the natural realm.
