A Great Army is Forming

A Great Army is Forming

In the Ezekiel chapter 37, the Prophet has a vision of a valley of dry bones. One of the outstanding verses is in this chapter is verse 11 “Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off for our parts.” The sense of this verse is that the entire “House” of Israel is divided and all the parts are separated from each other. Just as Israel was a “House” the Word of God calls the Body of Christ spiritual “House” also (1 Peter 2:5). I believe that the Word of the Lord to Ezekiel was not applicable to the “House” of the Lord in his day but that it is a prophetic word to the “House” of the Lord, the Body of Christ, today also. We are today, in many ways, in the same condition that Israel was in then. There is a great deal of division and separation in the Church today.

Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit writes in Ephesians 4:11-16 that the Lord gave “Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers for the perfecting of the saints… for the edifying of the body of Christ till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ: that we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; but speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: from whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.” (italics mine).

Paul tells us that the work of the Fivefold Ministry is to “perfect the saints” and then he tells us the result will be the body of Christ no longer blown around by every new doctrine or teaching that comes along but will be united in the faith and it will begin to finally measure up to the “full stature” of Jesus. He also informs us that this will result from the body being fitly framed and joined together just like the bones in Ezekiel’s vision were joined together forming a great army.
